The Quantum 3DP model is the second iteration of the Quantum created in 2018. For this new model, Dirk Pflug worked on a complete new set of airfoils, distributed along the wing with Energy Management turns in mind.
The wing planform is a mix between the geometry of the Quantum 2 and the backward swept of the Quantum 1. We used in the workflow the excellent software called “Planform2” created by Jochen Güenzel, imported the Q2 planform into the software, tweaked it a bit to obtain the perfect sweptback, and finally export to XFLR5 for further study and refinement. The tail is the exact same as for the Quantum2DP, the fuselage is almost the same but, because of the small difference of the wing root, a new mould was created. This fuselage has prooved to be very convenient for radio installation despite being slim.
The Quantum 3DP keep the gentle stall characteristics of the Quantum2, track very well, allowing the pilot to position the trajectory he wants along the slope edge. Energy management means larger turns with higher speed, flying heavier. this is where the quantum 3DP is good at. However, the plane still thermals very well in small conditions, and can handle light lift quite well in F3F, flying almost empty. The Quantum 3DP should give you lots of fun for those prefering sport flying, but will be competitive in F3F contests.
